  • What are your operating hours?

    Monday–Friday: 8 AM–4 PM


    Saturday (Transfer Station & Recycling Center only): 8 AM–12 PM


    Please arrive at the Transfer Station at least 15 minutes before closing. 

  • I'm moving, how do I go about canceling services?

    Give us a call! We will work with you to arrange for final a pickup and removal of your cart(s).

  • Do you take medical waste?

    No, we do not accept any form of medical waste. Please do not put medical waste in any trash receptacles offered by Tom Berkowitz Trucking. 

  • How do I report a missed collection?

  • Are your trucks monitored?

    Yes. Our trucks are equipped with cameras and GPS to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service.

  • Can I schedule an extra pickup?

    Yes, additional pickups can be scheduled for a fee. 

  • Can I get extra carts for my service?

    Yes, additional carts can be provided for a fee. 

  • Where can I find more recycling guidelines?

    For detailed information on what can be recycled in Massachusetts, visit the MassRecycle website.

  • What do I do about road constructions or paving?

    We will do our best to service your containers but are not responsible if we cannot access your house. customers are welcome to bring their unserviced trash to us at no cost.

  • What to expect with snow and ice

    • Driveways and parking lots nead to be cleared of all snow and ice, as well as sanded/salted. 
    • All carts need to be cleared all around and not blocked or behind snow banks. 
    • Do not put carts on top of snow banks. Our trucks cannot navigate snow as well as smaller vehicles. Packed snow creates ice. 
    • We will not drive over unplowed snow.

Roll-off

  • How much notice to schedule delivery or removal ?

    We require 24 hour notice for all deliveries and removals. You must call to schedule the removal of a roll off container. 


  • Are there extra fees?

    Some extra fees may be:

    • Weight over the allotted tonnage will be charged by the ton, prorated.
    • Rent will be charged after 7 days
    •  If the container is blocked, overloaded or otherwise cannot be delivered/removed. there will be a go back fee.
    •  Any damage to containers will be assessed & charged accordingly.
    • Any waste ban items may be an extra charge for recycling. 
    •  Any extra charges will be done automatically to the card given.

  • How do I load my container?

    Can either load over the top or through the rear door.

    • Cannot load above the sides of the container. Must remain "water level"
    • Any material leaning against or around the container will be left on site
    • Any material that may fall out during removal will be left on site
    • The door must be closed and latched prior to removal

  • Where can I put the container?

    The container can go in driveway/parking lots or flat level areas

    •  Customers cannot move container while on site with machinery or otherwise
    • We are not responsible for any ruts, spills, scrapes, or damages to driveways, lawns etc
    • Vehicles will not drive near wells/septic systems or over neighboring private properties. 
    •  Our trucks need more than twice the room of the container for delivery to account for the truck and container delivery/removal

Transfer Station

  • Where is the office?

    The office door is labeled at the front of the building by the road. The rear of the building is for employees only.

  • Where do I go for the scale?

    Drive behind main building. Stop at stop sign, proceed when scale is open. Alternating traffic. One in, one out. View map



  • Who’s responsible for unloading my vehicle?

    Customers are responsible to unload their own vehicles

    • Customers may bring help, but all parties must be in the vehicle while on property.
    • Visitors are not allowed to walk the yard area unsupervised.

  • What should I expect?

    It does smell, it is dirty, and can be slick. Enter at your own risk. We are not responsible for any damage/spills to vehicles, clothing, flat tires. Wear appropriate attire.

Cart & Containers

  • What to know for curbiside pickup

    To ensure your waste is collected:


    • Place your cart(s) out on the side of the road by 7am on your designated collection day, or the night before. 
    • The front of the cart must be facing street. 4ft from any object, 2ft from road. Price is for cart only, no extras included.
    • Please do not hide your carts behind bushes, trees, vehicles, etc. Be sure not to place it behind an obstruction. Please place them where they can clearly be seen from the road.
  • What is the difference between regular dumpsters and roll-off dumpsters?

    Comparison chart: commercial/residential vs. roll-off dumpsters. Features include size, shape, top style, purpose, billing, and availability.

  • Can I use my recycle cart for excess trash?

    No, you cannot.


    It is imperative that recycling remain clean in order for it to be recycled. If your cart is contaminated by anything other than recycling, the recyclables no longer can be recycled and becomes waste.


    Recycle carts are marked separately for ensuring this contamination does not occur. 

  • Who is responsible for damaged or lost carts?

    • Customers rent their containers, which are property of Tom Berkowitz.
    • Customers are not allowed to paint/mark/alter/sticker their containers. 
    • Customers are responsible for any lost/stolen/damaged containers due to accidents, weather snow plows etc. 
    • Fees may be applied if containers are damaged.

  • Can I put out any containers besides the ones labeled Tom Berkowitz Trucking?

    No, all curbside trash and recycling are required to be contained within a 96-gallon Tom Berkowitz Trucking marked green cart.

Residential Trash

  • What can and cannot be put in cart?

    Trash has to be bagged and must fit in the container. No waste ban items or hazardous waste. No demolition debris. 

  • What do I do if I missed my pickup?

    Call the office at 508-234-2920

    • Charges may be assessed if trash was not out. We can schedule an extra pick up if needed
    • Customers may bring missed trash/recycling to our transfer station at no cost if applicable. please call ahead first. 
  • Can I put yard waste in my curbside trash?

    No, you cannot. You may utilize our transfer station at 279 Douglas Rd, Whitinsville MA to dispose of yard waste, stumps, leaves, and brush. 

  • Can I put all garbage on my curb for pickup?

    No, there are restrictions as to what can and can't be placed at the curb for waste disposal.


    All non-recyclable or compostable materials are accepted at the curb except:


    • Liquids
    • Wet paint
    • Oil
    • Gas
    • Mercury
    • Combustible Items
    • Explosive items
    • Corrosive items
    • Flammable items
    • Radioactive items
    • Toxic items
    • Biomedical items
    • Electronic items 
    • Construction or demolition materials
    • Oversized items

    All of the items listed above require special disposal methods.

  • Can I get a replacement for my dirty/smelly trash cart?

    We will not replace carts due to it being smelly and/or dirty. 


    To prevent dirty/smelly carts you can do the following:


    • Ensure you are never disposing liquids in your trash cart.
    • Ensure all trash is securely bagged and tied to prevent spills inside your cart.
    • Place bags tied side up in your trash cart, to prevent trash from spill out of bags. 


    To clean your cart at home:


    • Wet the inside of your cart thoroughly with a hose. 
    • Use dish soap or Simple Green with a long brush to scrub the inside of the cart. 
    • Once you are done scrubbing, turn the cart on its side and pour out the dirty water. 
    • Rinse the cart again to get rid of excess soap and debris. 
    • Leave the lid open and the cart in the sun to dry. 
    • Repeat as necessary!

Commercial Containers

  • Can they be at residential addresses?

    Yes, be aware of the size/weight of the truck. Not responsible for damage to driveway from weight of truck or dumpster. 

  • What to know/expect

    • Not liable to spills or damage to driveway from truck or dumpster. 
    • Should be clear of overhead wires, overhangs etc. 
    • Will not take extra material next to or in front of dumpster. 
  • Snow and ice

    • Snow and ice should be cleared and area completely dry.
    • Truck will not enter if they feel it's not safe to do so at the drivers discretion. 

  • Damage to container

    Cannot move or load with machinery. Graffiti or damaged by vehicles is owner responsibility. 

  • Do you offer recycling dumpsters?

    We offer clean cardboard containers. Not for single stream recycling.

  • No special waste

    There are restrictions as to what can and can't be placed at the curb for waste disposal.


    All non-recyclable or compostable materials are accepted at the curb except:


    • Liquids
    • Wet paint
    • Oil
    • Gas
    • Mercury
    • Combustible Items
    • Explosive items
    • Corrosive items

  • Go back fees

    There will be a go back fee for all containers that were blocked, not plowed or salted properly, or not accessible for any reason.

Residential Recycling

  • Do I need to rinse cans and bottles for recycling?

    Rinsing cans, bottles and jars help reduce contamination, to reduce odor, and discourages pests from entering your bins. 


    Labels and neck rings do not need to be removed.

  • Do you offer recycling services?

    Yes, we offer bi-weekly recycling pickups in the towns of 


    Northbridge, Whitinsville, Uxbridge, Linwood, and Upton. 


    For all curbside customers, we also provide access to the recycling center, open on Saturdays from 8am-12pm.


    To participate in the program, customers should call the office at 508-234-2920 to arrange for a recycling tag.

  • Can I use Tom Berkowitz Trucking just for recycling?

    No, curbside recycling is an optional addition to curbside trash services. You must be enrolled in curbside trash services in order to participate.

  • Where can I get paper/documents shredded?

    Call your local town hall or bank to see if they offer shredding services. 

  • How do I put large boxes out for recycling?

    Boxes must be cut to fit inside the container.

  • Common items that CANNOT be recycled

    Any plastic bags, any pvc plastic, styrofoam, any food waste, mirrors, lightbulbs, batteries, clothing/blankets, scrap metal and wires/cables.

  • What holidays do you acknowledge that will affect my curbside service?

  • How will services work if we are scheduled for every other week?

    Please follow our every other week pickup schedule. For highlighted yellow weeks, your trash will be collected on those weeks, on the day of the week your pickup takes place. “ON” week is the highlighted yellow week for every other week customers services.
